armature urbanism

This thesis project details the design of a trail at the fringe of urban infrastructure; the trail passes through a power line corridor, a freeway underpass, and a forested hillside of invasive and successional Northwest species. The project examines trail design as a constructed narrative, an urban planning priority, and a graphic design challenge.

The design project and related writings have been recognized through: presentations at the Annual Meeting of the American Association of Geographers and the World Congress of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (2011), exposition at the Barcelona European Landscape Biennial (2010), WASLA Student Honor Award (2011), WASLA Written Work Student Award (2010), and invitation to submit to Terrain Vague: The Interstitial as Site, Concept, Intervention (UMass, 2011).
